I am Rohan Mandhanya a graduate student of Information Systems in Silicon Valley campus. Ever since I have come to this campus, it’s been a journey full of experiences. In Silicon Valley, technology changes like the direction of wind and thus never hold yourself to only one skill, as there is always a room for learning something new, something different and something interesting.
Campus and Faculties-
This campus stands out from the other campuses. It is especially for the tech geeks. So going with the obvious, you will find people with laptops and notebooks all around . Here we all aim at making something which can change one’s life; something which would take us to the better way of life. Since this is a regional campus, it’s slightly shrunk in its area which I find very nice as we get to know everyone in the campus and connect better. In Silicon Valley, most of the faculty members are full-time employees of well-known companies like Amazon, Unity, etc. Most have a working experience of more than 10 years in this industry. They are well aware of the present technologies on which industry is working. Such a guidance is definitely a plus in the process of learning.
Weather and View-
Silicon Valley has a Mediterranean climate. It has an average of 301 days of sunshine and an annual mean temperature of 60.5 °F (15.8 °C). The monthly daily average temperature ranges from around 50 °F (10 °C) in December and January to around 70 °F (21.1 °C) in July and August. There are so many places to go near Silicon Valley- San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Napa and many more. Santa Cruz has beautiful beaches which you can enjoy in summer. Also, Yosemite and Lake Tahoe are two places nearby where you can have the pleasure of snowfall.
Companies and Innovation-
Silicon Valley is a region which serves as the global center for high technology, venture capital, innovation, and social media. It’s the home to more than 2,000 tech companies. In Silicon Valley, you will come across innovation on daily basis. It is the source for any new product or idea. Thus, you are privileged to see the transition of the time right in front of you. Sometimes you will actually wonder is it the future already just by the device or machines around you! In this city, everyone uses the technology with full potential and this innovations start to inspire you.
Conferences and Events-
Conferences are always important as they are means of forming network with people from various industries and to understand the industry where you want to work. Such conferences are also helpful in giving you a clarity about what job will be good for you with your current skill set and which skills you still have to learn. Attending an event held by any company will always provide a outstanding experience. You will get to know about different technologies various industries are working on and what are their plans.
Startup and Meetup-
Silicon Valley is the heart of the world’s high tech companies and most of the companies started their journey from here. This is the land of opportunities, to network with people, to see the innovations and also contribute in some. Most of the meet ups are about startup where you are most likely to find someone who can hire you to work for them. Some meetups are also about enhancing the your skills in such meetups you get to present your product and understand what others are expecting from you and your product. Where as some meetups are helpful for beginners where they teach us how to improve skills for industries.
