When most people think of Seattle, two things usually come to mind: its booming tech scene and its rainy weather. But beyond that, Seattle is full of exciting activities and hidden gems – many of which are free! Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local looking for new adventures, here’s a guide to some of the best experiences in the city.

Free Must-Do Activities
Seattle Public Library

Book lovers, this one’s for you! The Central Library downtown is an architectural marvel, almost entirely made of glass, and perfect for photography. While exploring, don’t miss the giant octopus, snap a picture for your memories! Signing up for a library card also gives you access to free or discounted visits to museums, parks, and the aquarium.
First Thursdays: Museum Exploration
Seattle’s cultural diversity comes alive during the First Thursday events each month. Many museums open their doors with free entry or special exhibits. Highlights include:
- National Nordic Museum – Learn about Scandinavian culture and history.
- Seattle Art Museum (SAM) – Explore world-class art and rotating exhibits.
- Burke Museum – Perfect for science and natural history enthusiasts.
My personal favorite is the Museum of History & Innovation (MOHAI), which showcases Seattle’s entrepreneurial spirit and rich history, from startups to technological breakthroughs.

No trip to Seattle is complete without a visit to Pike Place Market. Watch fishmongers toss fish, explore quirky local shops, and sample fresh food. Don’t forget to stop by the first Starbucks location for a photo!

For a relaxing day outdoors, head to Alki Beach. It’s easily accessible and offers beautiful views of the Seattle skyline. You can sunbathe, play beach volleyball, or just enjoy a long walk along the shore. Nearby is Lincoln Park, a favorite among locals. It has easy trails for beginner hikers, picnic areas you can reserve, and even a whimsical troll sculpture which is perfect for a fun photo opportunity.

Seattle’s quirky side shines at Fremont Troll, an enormous troll sculpture hidden under a bridge. Just a short distance away, Gas Works Park offers panoramic views of the city and Lake Union which is ideal for a picnic, or watching boats pass by. Both spots are free to explore and perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
